Hey Everyone,
My first impression of Bush's new Supreme Court nominee, Harriet Miers, is that she is not fit to sit on the Supreme Court. I know virtually nothing about her, except that she has never been a judge. My opinion is that Supreme Court Justice is a job that would require at least some experience. John Roberts had at least been a Federal Judge, although it was only two years.
Has the administration sunk this low? They can't find a decent nominee that has been a judge? Not one semi-conservative judge has a record worthy of confirmation? This lady, although she may be very smart, has never written court opinions! Just because I've read plenty of financial statements doesn't make me ready to be a CFO!
It makes me wonder why members of both political parties like her. I did not hear any poor remarks during the morning press conferences. So, if nothing major arises during the hearings, I see her being confirmed.
If I was a decent judge, who had years of bench experience, I would be angry at the lack of experience going onto the Supreme Court these days. Think about it, if as a judge, you make an experienced, well researched ruling, it can now be struck down by justices with little to no experience.
I'm not sure we as citizens are being well served by the U.S. Senate's lax oversight or Bush's seemingly random, non-experienced choices. All of our rights as citizens will now be at the mercy of the inexperienced.
Does that frighten anyone but me? Even just make you a little uneasy? Will her lack of experience become a major issue during the confirmation hearings? I hope so.
More on this later,

Sticky - I LOVE the picture of the raging llama.....that is the coolest thing I've seen!
Thanks for your comment on my blog, it's nice to know that people actually read it every now and then :)
And as for having Judges in what I assume is your equivalent of the High Court with no Judiciary experience; definitely not cool.
Just a question; do Supreme Court Judges in the US have to have been at least a Lawyer, or can any Joe Bloggs off the street be nominated?
Here the President can appoint anyone he wants, and it is the resposibility of the Senate to "advise and consent"....so, the Senate can block a nomination if they feel the canidate is not qualified. They have done so in the past.
The current nominee, Ms. Miers, is currently a White House lawyer, and was for a time, President Bush's personal attorney.
That sounds a little suspect to me. Who came up with the bright idea of nominees not needing judicial experience?
